Disappointing Magazine

I've just opened up the latest copy of Papercraft Inspirations (issue 96) and I'm really disappointed in it. There are only a couple of cards that are worth a second look at and the free papers, well...

...would be lovely if they weren't on magazine paper!

The 16 papers inside the accompanying 'Birthday Card Ideas' mag are also printed on magazine paper, and when they say 16 what they really mean is 8 cos it's 8 pages printed front and back with a different patten so there is no way you can use each one of the 16!

Grrrr!!!!

There, rant over, I feel much better now :o)

Two in One

What a busy Thursday I had!!!

Yesterday was my monthly afternoon craft class as well as my weekly evening class, it was the first time I'd had them both on the same day and even though it was a long tiring day, it was a good day!

The afternoon session had a 20's/30's feel to it. I'm not normally in to 'vintage' stuff, I like the more modern feel to my crafting but I loved these cards...

In fact I loved the cards so much I bought one of each of the 5 decoupage sheets to play with at home as well as the frame swirl die (seen in brown around the lady in the top pic).

At the evening class we made the cutest little cover for a packet of tissues and a matching get well soon card...

I will definitely be making more of these covers and it also gave me an idea for covering a larger box of tissues.

I didn't get time to finish the last project and I forgot to bring home a couple of the parts but I like what I have and I'm sure I'll be able to come up with something with this...

And here's what you had a little sneak peak of the other day...

The flower pots are the cup cake wrapper from Sundays cup cake punch and the flowers are only my second attempt at quilling. I made it as a belated birthday card for the evening craft class tutor, I think she liked it and she said she had not seen the punch used as a plant pot before so yay for me and my super fab imagination! :o) lol

Phew what a busy but fab day!

Crafty Catch Up

Here's a bit of a catch up of the last few projects at Thursday craft class and the Sunday Stampin Up session (yes I made it!!!).

A couple of weeks back the Thursday theme was 'The Tooth Fairy'. We decorated a cute little tin for those kissed out teeth to be put in ready for the tooth fairy to collect along with a little wallet that the fairy could leave a little note in or even a coin or two! And every self respecting fairy needs a wand so we made one of those as well! This was such a cute project, I love the colours and the sparkly gems but my fave part of the set is the concertinaing on the wand.

Last Thursday we decorated a heart with flowers.
We then made a card and matching gift tag.
Aren't the colours just fab!

Sunday was Cup Cake Punch day!

We made 5 cards, all using the punch in different ways and also a lovely little gift bag in the shape of a hand bag (I love, love, love this bag!!!). I really enjoyed how we used the different parts of the punch as different items...

On one card we used the cake frosting as clouds, the bun case as a basket and the candles as straps
On another the bun case became a hand bag, and of course we used the punch as it was intended to be used, as a cup cake!

I've used the punch already on a project at home, here's a sneak peek...

I'll post the full pic when the person the card is for has received it ;o)

I think it's safe to say I will definitely get my monies worth from this punch!

Phew, I really must post more often!

I found the camera lead!!!

So here's a couple of my fave pic's from The Deep...

These 2 were inseparable all the time we were there.
It was lovely watching 'Dick & Liddy' swimming side by side,
they kinda looked like the mam & dad keeping a check on all their little en's

This guy is such a cutie!
There was a purple version too but she was kinda camera shy.
(That's code for I took a bad picture lol)

How long would a game of 'Hokey Cokey' take with him!?!?

Say cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeese!

I love it at The Deep, I'd recommend a trip there to anyone!

Shopping and helping others!

It's not very ofter we can help others while we are doing something for ourselves, and when it includes shopping and helping a cancer charity, well it just can't get any better!!!

Over at CANCER RESEARCH UK they are having a massive sale, which includes craft items, gifts & all sorts of lovely must have stuff, so why not pop over and treat your self and help the charity out a little!

Hope you get something nice! xx

Out of sorts

I really enjoyed Thursdays craft class this week (as always!) even though I felt a little out of sorts. My vertigo has been playing up a smidgen and I think the lavender we were working with and the heat of the room added to my daft head and I didn't really have a clue what I was doing most of the time! So thanks to all who helped me out xx I can't find the lead for the camera at the mo so unfortunately I can't show off what I made but I really liked all 3 projects, a heart, a gift tag and a card. I hope I feel better for the Sunday class, looking forward to it as well as being a little nervous. 4 hours is a long time out of your comfort zone when you have my head but like I said a few posts back, only I can change my life and to do that, things have to change. Doesn't make it easy though...

That reminds me of a greeting I heard on one of the craft shopping channels the other day, 'If nothing changed, we wouldn't have butterflies', isn't that a lovely phrase! I wonder if I will turn in to a butterfly with all my changes? lol I can hope!!!

Happy bday dad!

Ooooops is it really 9 days since my last post??? Must have been busier than I thought!

I have really enjoyed working on the project for my dads birthday and I'm really pleased with how it turned out, especially as I didn't have a pattern or anything, I'd just seen pictures on line and adapted the idea a little. And here it is...

I bought some ribbon and a few buttons but everything else came from my stash. I filled the pages with photos and embellishments and I'm pleased to say dad loved it :o)

He loved his card too...

We all went to The Deep in Hull (one of my dads fave places) and then stopped off for dinner before heading home for Irene's home made chocolate birthday cake mmmm! What a way to round off a lovely day.

Not uploaded The Deep pictures yet but if they are any good I'll be sure to add them.
Right, best jump in the bath and get ready for tonight's craft class, I sooooo look forward to Thursdays now :o)

New Challange!

It's my dad's birthday next week and I've been looking round the net for ideas for presents for him cos you know how hard it is to buy for men! I haven't found anything to buy him (yet!) but I did come across a lovely idea for a card. As I've already made his card, (what, me, organised??? I know!!! lol) I thought I could adapt the idea a bit and make a kind of mini scrap book kind of thing.

Anyway here's the idea...

As soon as Mr Maisie hits the hay tonight I'm gonna give it a go so wish me luck!
(Doesn't look like I'll be getting an early night tonight does it, lol)

Well it's different...

I had a bash at the card that I didn't get chance to start at the class. It turned out OK but different to how it was supposed to look! I'd uploaded the picture I had taken in the class to the laptop and deleted it from my phone, and me being me I couldn't be a*$%d to turn the lappy on just to look at a picture so I improvised...

It's not that different really, I just had the double sided papers the wrong way round, didn't punch the edges and I had no idea what to do with the black plastic string so I left it off.

What it should look like...

What it does look like...

It's not that different is it??? Oh and I just love the flower!

(A close up just for me cos I can lol)

No luck with the early night tonight, will try that one again tomoz!

Jam Packed Sunday!

I know I said I wanted to get out and about more, but I didn't mean doing it all in one day...

Sunday Mr Maisie & I went to collect our Christmas present to each other, yes I know it's now January but we didn't get the phone call to say it had arrived at the gallery, it was only when I phoned them the other day to see when it would arrive I found out it had been sat there waiting for us since the Wednesday before Christmas, grrrrr!

Anyway, here it is, our new Doug Hyde, Miss You...

I can't wait to find the perfect spot to hang it, but I may just wait till we next decorate, nothing like that brand spanking new feel to a room and all it's new decorations.

After picking the picture up we went to the local shopping centre, Mr Maisie wanted some bits and bobs from WHSmiths and I needed a new handbag! We got what we needed and then went to the food court for lunch. As always when there, I went to Spud U Like for a yummy cheese n bean combo, normally that's enough for me as they are very filling but a dessert took my eye, the carrot cake looked sooooo yummy I just had to get one for me and Mr M to share! Mr M opened the carrot cake and tried it first, he said it was delicious and I knew by the look in his eye there was nooooo way I was going to even get a taste let alone get a share! I didn't put up a fight, just told him to go get me one all to my self as well and I'm so glad that how it worked out cos it was bloody lovely, one of the best carrot cakes I've tasted, treat your self to one if you can, you won't regret it!

After that it was a quick run around the supermarket and then home. I know compared to everyone else I didn't do much but when your not used to being out and about, well I was buggered, so it was a night in front of the box and an early night, yessssss!

Going to have a bash at the card I didn't have time to do on Thursday this afternoon, so watch this space ;o) xx

Saturday 7 January 2012

I did it!!!

My head behaved it's self on Thursday and I made it to the craft class!!! YAY!

I was really nervous about going as I'm not one for doing things alone, in fact Wednesday night all I did was dream about going, that's how much it was playing on my mind, but positive thinking and a few deep breaths got me through. The tutor and all the girls were lovely and very welcoming, they made me feel right at home and the ladies I sat with were good fun and very helpful, thank you all so much for making me feel at ease xx They made me feel so at ease that I've signed up for a scrapbooking class as well (I know, go me! lol), that will be held once a fortnight on a Tuesday so watch this space...

Anyway back to Tuesday, we had 4 projects to do, 3 cards and a note book. I like all 4 but I have to say the note book is my fave.

I didn't have time to start the last card so I brought all the bits and bobs home and I'll have a bash at that when I get an hour to my self.

I had to spend a few mins at home on the paisley card as well cos the time just flew by! Not only for me either, I don't think anyone completed all 4 projects so next week were just going to try 3.

The lady who told me about the class came over and said a quick hello, she had been having a bit of a sort out and gave us all a pack of stamped images she no longer wanted, can't wait to have a play with these...

All in all I really enjoyed it and can't wait to go back!
Oh yeah, and I did my 5/6 as well :oD xx

Happy New Year!

Dosen't time fly! I can't believe it's January already, I'm sure this time last year it was only September...

Well a new year means a new start and this is my new start! I'm not calling it a new years resolution cos those are doomed to fail before they even start (with me anyway), so a new start it is!

Last year did have good points and I'm sure if I have a good think I could come up with quite a few highlights but on a few levels it was a bit of a pants year for me, and as it's my life, it's down to me to change it starting now!

Things I want to achieve...
  • Get out and about more
  • Take more photographs
  • Craft more (and use stash that I already have)
  • Blog more often (seen as my last post was 2 months since, this shouldn't be too hard!)
  • Get to know new people
  • Get to bed at a reasonable time
  • Add more to this list as I think of them...
I've made a start already, I'm blogging and I've enquired about attending a weekly craft class! It starts tomoz, so dizzy head permitting, this time tomorrow I'll be getting ready to go out, meet new people, craft something new and have something worth taking a picture of!

I don't think 5 out of 6 is a bad start, do you?

Keeping my fingers crossed for a clear head and nice peeps at the class...
